Our first project: Building Skills Project completed January 06

Our launch project, a building skills initiative, was completed in January 2006. With the help of a local builder, four young men from the Bergmanshoogte settlement of Philippolis were taught basic bricklaying, plastering and painting skills whilst constructing a new community centre. Independence ZA funded the wages and some of the materials required to construct the community centre. The community centre, serving as a crèche, opened in January 2006.

Six months after completion of the school all the apprentices are in employment, working for builders in Philippolis.
