Our second project: Training 10 Community Support Officers

Independence ZA is funding the training of 10 Community Support Officers in Philippolis. These women, known as The Good Samaritans, are vital in the fight against the HIV-AIDS pandemic and are central to HIV prevention, education, anti-retroviral medication administration and support, counselling and home based care of the ill and the affected families. They are also playing a vital role in the counselling of young children who lose one or both of their parents.

IZA is financing multi-faceted training including basic first aid, further counseling training, bereavement counseling and presentation and training skills (so that the women in turn can train other members of the community, improving the sustainability of the project). These courses will take place on an ongoing basis over next 12 months.
